@selahs31106 months ago The only caution about the fire water is... If you are on blood thinners in any way, shape or form do not take fire water. The cayenne pepper will thin your blood😊😊 524

@RandomStranger2466 months ago 2 shots of whiskey mixed with tea and honey every night before bed until the cold/flu is gone. You'll sweat like crazy through the nightbut after a day or two, you'll be back to normal. My Granny did it any time she got sick, well into her 90s. ... 78

@m0L3ify6 months ago I might try that next time I get sick. My wife's Depression-era grandfather told her to put a few drops of eucalyptus & peppermint oils in boiling water, pour the water into a bowl, and then put your head over the bowl and cover your head with a towel and breathe the steam for 10 minutes to treat a cough. It really works well. You have to be careful with the peppermint oil, tho, because it is very volatile during the first minute or so and whew it gets hard to tolerate until the strongest vapors evaporate! ... 8

@me-xx2gl6 months ago The honey, lemon and whiskey was first recommended by my pediatrician when my son caught a cold at 3 weeks. He felt it was safer tha OTC. Controlled his cough. My mother never drank. She even took grape juice at communion. She was visiting and had that tickling cough. I gave her little juice glass of that. She slept like a hibertnating bear. ... 91

@mindydevine58146 months ago Hello Eli! Hope you're feeling much better! My family is of Scot-Irish, German and Native origins and also makes something similar to this. Most people call it Fire Cider down here in the South and in the Appalachian areas.
If you want to try a new recipe next time we use a combination of apple cider vinegar, garlic, onion, ginger, horseradish, hot peppers or cayenne, thyme, rosemary, sage, lemon balm, oregano, turmeric powder, honey, elderberry syrup and fresh citrus fruits.... It's a lot but we make it and store it in a few quart containers for the entire winter for the family! Tablespoon a day! Feel better soon!

@AtlasReburdened6 months ago I actually grow a small plot of elderberries and make each season's harvest into cold/flu meds for my whole family. I haven't found anything that shortens a flu as well, so long as you start taking spoonfuls as soon as you notice that youre getting sick. If you start on day 2 or 3 of nasty symptoms(like most people who go on to say that it doesn't work😂😂) then you're in for the full span of a flu, albeit with less nasty symptoms. ... 2

@WillBlindYouWithLight6 months ago My grandpa was a moon shiner. Might say THE moon shiner for the east coast. He was involved with very many big names back in the day. Anyway, he taught his kids it was medicinal only, and the only people that didn't use it as medicine were not to be taken seriously or their word honored. So I was always even as a child given the hard stuff when I was sick and it always worked. This fire water is known and it works too. Back then the dr was only for serious things, not a cold. Crazy how times have changed but the old ways are always best. ... 1

@grandparedpill26956 months ago The Irish for famous for using a hot whiskey, that's a shot of whiskey, one shot of water, and you heat the water up separately with two or three whole cloves. You then add the whiskey, and a teaspoon of sugar. As a musician and a singer, several times while being sick this has gotten me through a 3-hour gig. Well at least three of them. ...

@Tmhjr_Baskar6 months ago We always called em hot totties. We didn't use whiskey though. Only kept one canister of alcohol around for when we got really sick...Mom kept that canister under lock and key.
As for what was in that canister? I'll give you a hint. I have lots of fam members from the "hills of Kentucky and Tennessee". Stuff was easier to get in the 80s, but they really cracked down in the 90s.
Big wooden spoon, hot "stuff", and a touch of honey really helped with sore throats.
And no folks, it wasn't everclear. Everclear is weak compared to what relatives kept us stocked up with. :p
