Quarantine & Cook Cheesy Onion Rings with White Sauce Dip with the Club Treasurer, Ruhiya. ONION RINGS INGREDIENTS: - 1 cup flour - 1 cup bread crumbs - 2 eggs - 1/2 tbsp baking powder - 1/2 tbsp garlic paste - 1 tbsp chilli powder - Salt - Black pepper powder - Mozzarella cheese slice - Big onions - Coriander leaves for garnishing - Oil PROCESS: In a big mixing bowl, take 1 cup of flour, ½ tbsp of baking powder, 1 tbsp chilli powder, black pepper and salt. Mix the dry ingredients well. Whisk 2 eggs in a separate bowl. To the eggs, add ½ tbsp garlic paste, a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of salt and mix well. Tip: If you don’t want to use garlic paste, add ½ tbsp garlic powder to the mixture of dry ingredients instead. Take one or two onions and cut them into rings with a width of no more than 1.5 cm. Cut some mozzarella cheese slices into the width of 1.5 cm. Start preparing the onion rings by stuffing the cheese slices in between a bigger and a smaller ring of onion. Prepare 1 cup of breadcrumbs. Once you are done with stuffing all the onion rings, it is time to take a ring, coat it with the mixture of dry ingredients, dip it in the mixture of eggs, put it in the breadcrumbs and repeat the last two steps twice before setting it aside. Repeat the steps for all the rings. Freeze the onion rings for 30 minutes before frying. On a frying pan, warm up sufficient oil needed to submerge our onion rings. Once the oil is ready, turn down the heat to a low setting. Drop each onion ring and fry them until they turn reddish-brown. It is important to cook on a low heat setting in order to let the onions cook properly. Once the rings achieve the desired colour, pick them up, drain the excess oil and place on a plate which has tissue papers to further absorb the excess oil. WHITE SAUCE DIP INGREDIENTS: - 2 tbsp butter - 1 tsp ginger garlic onion chopped/ paste - 1 tbsp flour (maida) - 1 cup milk - Salt - 1 tsp paprika flakes - 1/2 tsp black pepper - Half onion - One bay leaf - 2 cloves PROCESS: Using 2 cloves, pin a bay leaf onto an onion cut in half. In a frying pan, on a medium heat setting, melt 2 tbsp of butter properly. After the butter has been melted, add 1tbsp of flour and mix until you see bubbles forming in the mixture. Add 1 cup of milk, the onion, bay leaf and cloves and stir the mixture for 4-5 minutes until it gets dense. Add 1 tsp garlic paste, 1 tsp ginger paste, 1 tsp onion paste, 1 tsp paprika, ½ tsp black pepper and salt to the mixture and stir well for 1-2 minutes more until our sauce dip is ready. Tip: If you feel the sauce dip is thicker than your preference, feel free to add milk a little at a time and keep stirring the mixture. .
