Vitamin C serum is one of the products appearing in ads frequently in social media. So there are many chances that many of my friends could opt for buying it because of the tag lines used like ‘SKIN LIGHTENING’, ‘REDUCES WRINKLES’. So I thought as a dermatologist I could share some important informations about how to chose the right product among them. Basically this is not a product review video. There are certain things to look for while buying vitamin C skin serum 1. Percentage - Always go for 20% 2. Ingredients - Look for these stable forms of vitamin c in your product MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE, ASCORBIC ACID SULPHATE, ASCORBYL PALMITATE, SODIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE, ASCORBYL TERTRAISOPALMITATE, ASCORBYL GLUCOSIDE 3. Serum or Cream? I would always advice to buy a serum based product for vitamin c serum. Because vitamin c is highly unstable and loses its activity on exposure to light so a cream based product would come in a packaging where you have to open it and spend some time keeping it open while you take the cream and apply where the cream in the package would become unstable and lose its activity whereas a serum with dropper can prevent that from happenning, 4. Vitamin C alone or combination product? A combination of Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Ferrulic acid would be the best choice but ferrulic acid is not available everywhere. So i would suggest you to buy Vit C and Vit E combination always as both are antioxidants 5. When to apply Vitamin C? Watch the video for better explanation 6. Oral or topical form? Which one suits for you? If you are a person with sensitive skin or cannot afford to buy Vitamin C serum then you can use oral vitamin C tablets which comes in 500 or 1000mg.
